You will notice that when using handcrafted soap your skin is soft and not dry or tight. Glycerin, a natural humectant, is one of the results of the chemical process that occurs when a soapmaker combines lye with natural oils such as olive or coconut. During commercial soap production the glycerin is removed.

Additionally, commercial soap contains many synthetic ingredients. In fact, some of the "beauty bars" can't even be called soap because they're not! They are synthetic detergents! Have you ever looked at your bar's label? Natural soap, like the vegetable oil soaps made by Savannah River Soaps contain only essential oils and natural colors--no artificial dyes or fragrances are ever used.
